Sensation & Perception

The senses are our windows into the world by which we transform physical and chemical stimulation into neuronal impulses. Our brain then interprets these sensory impulses to create our perception of the external world. The NYU ECoG Group is studying the neuronal mechanisms by which the brain processes information from different senses, such as vision, audition and touch, and how it integrates inputs from different sensory modalities to create our perceived physical ‘reality’. In addition, we are also interested in the effects of context and prediction on neural computations, because how we interpret our world depends not only on physical stimulus characteristics, but also on our prior history and expectations.
